Tatra Mountains Guide

A week on the snows of the East for the lovers of the telemark and the ski touring: daily excursions and a small “haute-route” with base in the mountain huts and also some curves “free heel” in off-piste………

The High Tatras constitute the most elevated part of the Tatra Mountains that occupy a band of around 60 x 25 kilometers at the border between Poland and Slovakia. Geographically they belong to the chain of the Carpazis and they are divided in Western Tatra (Tatry Zachodnie), The main Alti Tatra (Tatry Wysokie) and Oriental Tatra (Belanske Tatry). The highest summit is the Gierlach (2655 ms).
The program, very elastic, it is to reach Tatranska Lomnica and from there move in the valleys where the conditions of snow will be the best for daily excursions and “haute route” of 2 or 3 days. Based in the mountain huts or in the alpine chalets that can be found almost everywhwere and in tourist class hotels in town.

Technical level: from BS to BSA, also for ski tourers or telemarkers in their first experience but with enough training and technical good ski level in the descent. In the proposed period generally the quality of the snow as the quantity, is ideal and normally there are spring conditions. This means that the snow is stable, with less risk from the danger of avalanches and skiable with relative facility.

Clothing and equipment necessary they are identical to those to use on the Alps, with rope, iceaxe and crampons. It is also obligatory to carry a shovel, probe and Avalanche Transceiver. Ask for the "recommended equipment list".

The sleeping arrangements are in tourist class hotels and mountain huts (sleeping bag and sheet recommended).

Period: March and April, saturday to saturday.
